I have been doing a lot of pondering lately as I prepare to make some changes in my business and my offerings to my clients. many of these ponderings have been leaning towards healing, and what it actually takes to heal completely.

The wellness and healing sector is s vast and is rapidly growing, it’s full of therapists all offering amazing work and tools to help you overcome illness. It has got me thinking. After working for many years as a therapist I have come to the conclusion that when it comes to healing, one size definitely does not fit all.

Some people find that by changing their diet their symptoms improve, or by leaving a toxic situation or person they feel a lot lighter, or by addressing some underlying emotional issues their life flourishes. But do these adjustments bring long-term healing or do they merely make a situation more bearable?

I believe that when it comes to overcoming conditioning, health challenges, and emotional struggles we have to do a combination of things that will help lead us to the ultimate goal of awakening. I believe that all issues that we experience in our lives are the direct manifestation of an unmet emotional need, in which our soul leads us towards a “near-death experience” in order for us to awaken into higher consciousness and connection to our spirit.

So what does it take for healing to occur

We are made up of four bodies, spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical and we have to take care of each of these bodies so they can help you thrive and be healthy. One of my mentors calls this “the four doctors” pillars and they are Dr. Diet, Dr. Quiet, Dr. Happiness, and Dr. Movement. Now if you take the time to work with and feed each of these pillars you will achieve homeostasis and happiness.

Let’s look at these doctors in greater detail

Dr. Movement – This is how we build a strong, functional body?

What kind of movement do you love?

How often are you moving and challenging your body, are you lifting weights and stretching?

If you are moving how often are you moving, do you listen to your body when it’s asking for rest?

Are you moving too much or too little?

Are you using all of the primal movement patterns? Push, pull, twist, squat, lunge?

Dr. Diet-

Are you eating a healthy balanced diet?

Are you eating all three macronutrient groups eg carbs, fats, proteins in the right combination for your body?

Are you eating enough?

Are you eating foods that are detrimental to your health, eg polyunsaturated fats, trans fats, table salt, processed foods, and commercially produced crops and animals?

Are you getting a good supply of medicinal plants in eg nettles, milk thistle, red clover, chamomile, dandelion, and would you know where to find and identify these near to where you live?

Are you eating fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables?

Are you getting enough minerals and vitamins through your diet? Eg magnesium, zinc, Vit A, C, B

Dr. Quiet – This is our rest, digestion, and recovery.

Are you getting at least 8 hours of quality sleep per night?

Are you spending enough time alone?

Are you replenishing your energy through practices like meditation and Qi gong? If you work out you also need to work in and put the energy back!

Are you having enough downtime without electronics?

Are you spending enough time in nature?

Are you consuming too much fearful content?

How well are you breathing?

Are you eating your food in a calm relaxed environment?

Are you exposing your skin to sunlight daily?

Do you believe in something greater than yourself?

Dr happiness – our dreams, legacy, and mental health

Are you spending quality time alone with yourself?

Are you working on healing difficult emotions?

Are you healing old traumas?

Are you doing things you love?

Do you know what you stand for, what are your core needs and values? Are you living by this model?

What makes you happy?

What is your dream and are you working towards it?

Are you playing enough?

Are you setting goals and holding yourself accountable?

Are you aligning with the energy of the seasons? Eg knowing when to slow down and speed up?

Are you forgiving yourself for past mistakes?

When we work through these individual pillars of wholeness, it then opens up a pathway of deeper connection with ourselves and the world we live in. Which in turn awakens us to a higher purpose which asks us to question far deeper than going to a 9-5 job, coming home and watching tv before going to bed, and doing it all again.

It helps us to fall in love with ourselves and the life we have been blessed with, we start to want the best for ourselves at every level of our existence.

It opens up questions like, why am I here? What am I here to learn and how can I be of service to others throughout my lifetime? If I died tomorrow would I be ok with that?

When this curiosity is sparked, life begins to unfold in a very magical and synchronized way. However, in order to get to this place, we need to work through the discomfort of facing our own darkness, shadows and look at the places within us where we are not being truthful with ourselves. One huge question we really need to ask ourselves is do we actually WANT to heal, do we really know who we are beyond our pain and traumas? This can be a terrifying question to ask oneself because sometimes the answer is no. Being sick keeps us stuck and safe as we know where we are and we know what to expect. You could say comfortably uncomfortable!

Healing fully takes a real level of bravery as we step into the unknown!
